Nothing new; the USA has been calling for one since at least 1945; it's just that the Arabs disagreed and invaded and only one of the two new countries survived the attack. When Arafat got pragmatic with age, it almost actually happened but HAMAS destroyed that idea for at least the near future. I believe the Roman Catholic Church did agree with the UN creation of these countries out of the new concept created by the British of Palestine when they created new boundaries from the old Ottoman divisions of the area.

He has the backing of EVERYONE(including the US, except Israel-Israel refuses the two state because she intends on continuing her ethnic cleansing(killing Palestinians and stealing their land) with the goal of annexing the West Bank and Gaza strips-she has NO INTENTION of peace that includes the Palestinians.
